Maud Gonne was under restraipt for the first half, fought it out gamely with Illowaho all through the last quarter and was drawing away in the last ten yards. Shrine showed the most speed and shook off Jerry when rounding the far turn, but was doing her best all through the last sixteenth to stall off Jim Buck and Reservation. The former appeared like a winner at the furlong post, but tired in the last fifty yards. Reservation lost ground by making a wide turn into the homestretch, but was wearing down the leaders at the end and would have been second in another stride. Jerry tired and quit as if short. Lone Fishor-man was lucky, raced Bounteous into exhaustion in the first six furlongs and had enough left to stall off Cogswell in the last sixteenth. Cogswell tired after catching the leaders. He had to come all around his field to get up. Bounteous was well ridden and had no mishaps. He was tiring all through the last furlong. Branch ran in improved form. The latter was easily the best of the others and was hard ridden all the way. Enue got away tangled up, made up a lot of ground and finished strongly. Baikal could never improve his position.
