DESHA FALLS DEAD AT OAKLAWN. Hot Springs, Ark., March 1. Shortly after the finish in the first race at Oaklawn today, Desha, which had been running In a prominent position up to within the last sixteenth, faltered iuid fell dead opposite the paddock gate. The cause of death, was said to be heart failure. Jockey Foley escaped uninjured. While at the post for the second race, jockey Perkins, astride Maggie Powers, in an effort to escape $ kick from Invasion, earromed Into another burse witU sufficient force to fracture a small boue iu his ankle. Jockey Spears was substituted on Maggie Powers. Charles Miers, business manager for John Condon left today for Iiouisville, Ky., where he goes in an effort to help rush the completion of Douglass Park. The Western Jockey Club wants the plant ready by April 20. Miss Strnnie came out of her race yesterday with bucked shins. The owners of Aaron ,T. think so well of his chances, that they have entered him in the Carter Handicap to be decided at Aqueduct this spring. Jockey Hiidebrand is anxiously awaiting the action oC the Jockey Club on his application for a license. He will ride here if restored to favor by the eastern officials. Joe Yeager joined the ranks of the bookmakers today.
