Chnmblet broke Trom the outside aud had to work his way up by going around on the outside, but came through on the inside when entering the homestretch and, showing great courage under punishment, got. up in the last llfty yards and won gradually drawing out. La Thorpe is a rapid breaker and showed extreme speed and a liking for the going, but tired in. the last sixteenth. King Leopold was buffeted about when the start came and had a rough journey, but probably fancies a fast track best. Merry Leap Year covered more ground than any of those which, beat lier and was on the outside for the entire trip. Scratched 59509 Early Spring, 101. The latter showed extreme speed in the going, but tired under punishment and rims her best raees in front. Heart of Hyacinth went well and was easily best of the others. The winner, a Derby eligible. Monterey was. kept out of the running until on the turn for home, where he went to the leaders with a rush and won going away. The winner has improved wonderfully in appearance since his let-up aud todays race was part of his preparation for the Derby, to be run March 17. Polly Prim, outrun In the early stages, finished fast and gamely, but was unable to withstand the winners challenge and was carried over to the inside by him in the last sixteenth and forced Lucy Young back. Wild Irishman ran forwardly, hut was thing at the end. Lucy Young showed her usual burst, of early speed, but she and Nutwood were crowded out of contention in the last fifty yards when the jam occurred. Nutwood ran a good race and can win when rightly placed. Tinker was going well at the end. Scratched OOGlOMonet. 140; G0587Robiu Hood, 132; 00052 Husted, 97; G0711Billy Handsel, 97.
