RICH STAKES TO CLOSE NEXT MONDAY. Events Proffered By the New Memphis Jockey Club and Northern Circuit Tracks. Monday March ,r. is a highly Important day to owners and trainers the country over. At midnight of that day entries close to a tremendous array of stakes offered bv the New Memphis .lockey Club. Highland Park Club and Windsor and Fort Erie. Saratoga Association and Queens County Jockey Cluh, a number of the most coveted event.s of each recurring year being among the present offerings. To the majority of western turfmen the Memphis, Windsor and Fort Erie stakes will call for the most serious attention. The Memphis.. offerings embrace all of the long established favorites, with the rich .Montgomery Handicap to the fore, followed by the Gaston Hotel Stakes, Ardelle Stakes and Memphis Stakes for two-year-olds, the Hotel Gayoso Stakes for three-year-olds and the Peabody Ihitel Handicap and Tennessee Brewing Stakes for three-year-olds and over. All are very attractive and highly deserving of the most generous measure of patronage. The present unfortunate dissension in western racing may operate unfavorably to the high class organization that has long made Memphis a famous racing point, but it may be sarely assumed that If entries are received all owners will be honorably treated and allowed to race by virtue of the implied contract Involved in accepting their entrance fees. The Northern Circuit has been growing in importance year by year and there is no doubt that the stakes. offered by the Highland Park Club lo be rnn off at Windsor and Fort Erie, will be liberally patronized. Windsor will take .the place occupied in previous years by Highland Park. The track has been put Into excellent condition for racing. The seven stakes provided here are the Frontier Stakes, for three-year-olds: the Windsor Selling Stakes, for three-year-olds and over; the Essex Handicap for all ages: Royal Oak Farm Stakes and the Detroit Slakes for two-year-olds: the International Steeplechase and tlie newly instituted Ontario Steeplechase. The Fort Erie stakes are headed as usual, by the Canadian Derby and In addition to the list of former years two new stakes are offered: the Genessee Hotel Handicap for three-year-olds and the Hotel Lafayette Stakes for two-year-olds. With the future offerings of Toronto, Hamilton and Kenilworth to come, the Northern Circuit offers ample attractions this year and all reputable turfmen will be made freely welcome.
