GETTING READY FOR ACTION. M:my turfmen watched the horses at work both at Grave-send ami Sheepshead Bay last Saturday. At the Hay, over the Futurity course, James Royve had a number of James R. Krones thoroughbreds out for light work, the great Sysnoby indulging in a gallon that showed him to advantage. JaeU Joynor brought more than a dozen two-year-olds over to Cravesend from the Ray, and all of them displayed speed. In fact they carried off the honors of the day in this respect. A Watercress filly of .splendid appearance turned a quarter in 0:2T, while a lilly and a gelding, loth unknown to the track sharps, covered this distance in 0:U51. T. .1. Gaynor showed his good marc Whimsical to a gallop under double wraps, with several of her stable mates in attendance. James McLaughlin, whose horses are in fine condition for Washington, sent Blue Coat. Jack McKeon and The Poet over a six furlong jaunt, while his two-year-olds Solly SI., Mode anil Sun Up went about three furlongs. Matt Allen gave the noted Oiseau a good gallop, and Trainer Tom Welsh sent Inquisitor, Merry Lark and Duenna along at a smart gait, but restricted Ormondale, last years Futurity winner, to jogging exercise. Father Rill Daly had Veronese, Rest Boy, Oaronal, Tomcod, Priority and others out early, Veronese stepplug Jive furlongs in 1:05. hard held. Newton Bennington was on hand to see his two-year-olds in the care of Fred Burlew, and after some sharp workouts he expressed much satisfaction with them. Frank Weir let Roseben have a gallop, and also put Jaequin to a mild test, at the same time working a bunch of two-year-olds. It was a busy day all around and gave further evidence tiiat the horses training on the local tracks will be lit ami ready when the Eastern turf campaign opens in two weeks.
