KENTUCKY DERBYS MAIDEN ELIGIBLES. Barbaros and Convolo having won this year, there are only four maidens among the twenty-four eligihlcs for the Kentucky Derby. They are King Henry, Missouri Lad, Ben Shaw and Bayonet, the half brother to The Picket. King Henry is one of the most promising colts in training at Lexington, Ky. He is by Sir Dixon, out of Sallie of Navarre, a daughter of Henry of Navarre and Sallic McClelland. He was foaled the property of the late Captain S. S. Brown and is now being handled for Captain W. Harry Brown by trainer Robert Tucker. Captain Brown bought "Sallic of Navarre for ,000 at the sale of Colonel W. S. Barnes Melbourne Stud in 1SHKJ. The mare had been mated to Sir Dixon the previous spring, the season to that noted stallion being a compliment from Messrs. Clay and Woodford to Colonel Itarnes. From the day that he was dropped at Scnorita Farm, Captain Brown had n great fancy for this chestnut colt and he watched him grow into a handsome yearling and saw him perforin in a manner which presaged great things. But last year he encountered some of those trivial, yet annoying, ailments and was not raced. Now, however, trainer Tucker says he is as sound as a dollar, lias wintered splendidly, is training kindly and that much Is expected of him this year. Missouri Lad, which is in the stable of Fred Cook at Louisville, is a brown colt by Top Gallant Margaret Allen, by Glenelg. Work watchers say that he is a horse witli an abundance of speed, but they have no line on his likes or dislikes for a route. Ben Shaw is a bay colt by Ingoldsby, ont of Po-tina. He is now in the Respess string at Churchill Downs. He has been at Wood lawn Farm all winter. He looks to be in good condition and moves alertly, but so far as Is known his owner has asked nothing of him at the Louisville track as yet.
