FOUR FOE THE WESTERNERS. EFFETE EASTERNERS MISS OUT ON GOOD THINGS AT SHEEPSHEAD BAY. A. Muskoday, Under Light Impost, the Medium of a Coup Rockaway Cup Race Amuses tho Regulars Heavy Attendance. New York, July 3. Everything conspired to make lie eleventh racing day of the Coney Island Jockey Clubs June meeting at Sheepshead Hay uninteresting, uneventful and uncomfortable. First of all the card was exceedingly mediocre, lacking in both quantity and quality drawbacks that liecarae more pronounced with the. advent of a copious precipitation and resultant muddy track. Then there were the usual upsets that have with monotonous regularity marked the racing of late. Nothing short of an earthquake, however, would bring the Sheepshead Hay attendance below the 10,000 mark. There are nearly that many regulars here. The betting ring alum: will accommodate a greater number and this afternoon it was tilled to overflowing and there was improved business Jor the layers. The solitary stake fixture programmed was :i loss-country affair, the Kockaway Cup, for qualified hunters, supposedly of paramount interest to the society set and in which the proletariat could have but little concern. As a matter of fact, the gentry" were conspicuous on this gloomy afternoon by their absence and tho common people enjoyed the spectacle hugely. It developed, as was evitected. into the customary farce. It was a beautiful procession, the distances between the slow-going contestants being mathematically precise during the entire running. The time of todays race was 5:32. Thomas Hitchcocks Foxhunter holds the record for the distance. 5:002. August Belmonts Tiptoe prevailed over lirook-ilale Nymph in the mile race as If the latter was a selling plater. It was all due to the going. T. C. McDowells western two-year-old Rashaway unexpectedly won a hard-earned victory over Mr. Belmonts Don Enrique, half brother to the peer-Jess Beldame, another upset In which the muddy footing -probably had no share. The patiently manipulated A. Muskoday, which would have been handicapped within ten pounds of 1 roper on California tracks and really deserved that honor for ids tine record at Los Angeles last winter, was pitchforked into todays mile and a furlong handicap with t0 Humds. He won all the way, hacked from 20 to 10 to 1. Verily the astute westerners are picking up n little easy money from the hopeless hoard of provincials that eternally parade Broadway. John Kyles success in the closing race over the grass course was worthy of note. Notwithstanding the fact that Miller was on bis back, the effete easterners would have none of him. Incidentally the lowly Bundoorau created a mild sensation by lunging under the barrier, unseating his jockey and running away for live miles, delaying the start nearly a quarter of an hour.
