LATONIAS SECOND SUMMER MEETING BEGINS Nothing Particularly Noteworthy in the Racing Friendship a Good Thing Likewise Amberita. Cincinnati, 0., August 13. The beginning of the supplementary summer meeting at Latonia today was characterized by nothing especially noteworthy. Seventeen bookmakers were in line in the big ring and two fielders supplied the wants of the smaller speculators. The absence of Fred and Ed. Alvey, considered the "big store" men, may not have anything to do with it, but there was also a noticeable attempt to lay short prices against horses considered as having excellent chances to score. The bookmakers were in a panicy state before the market on the second race was settled. Some of them quoted Friendship at 15 to 1, but without accepting anything wiped to 8 to 1, which was reduced to 3s at post time. Friendship had little difficulty heading out his opponents in the stretch drive and landed a good sum for his connections. It was announced in a local paper Sunday morning that jockey Robinson had tired of riding and would seek recreation. However, he had three mounts today, none of them winners. Nicol was out of form due to early morning exercise in the effort to get down to weight after the Sunday Intermission. However, he won the last race with the suddenly improved Amberita. Jockey Aubuchon took a sudden brace and landed two winners Oddoletta and Lady Lavish both at good prices. He also made a hard effort to get Docile home, but was unsuccessful. Harry Kuhl was among todays visitors. He is on his way to Colorado to visit his mother and try to regain his health. Jockey Von Graefen, who rode Sainpria for Barney Schreiber in the first race, was suspended for three days by the starter for failure to leave the post with the rest of the field.
