MANZAN0 WINS FORT ERIE STEEPLECHASE. Has a Hard Drive With Lulu Young Private and Public Sales Gossip. , .., . is-. 1 -- Buffalo, N. Y., August 14. The feature at Fort Erie today was the steeplechase over the short course. It was won by Manzano In the hardest kind of a drive from Lulu Young, the second choice. Glpsano, the favorite, was badly beaten. Sartor Resartus showed an unusual amount of early speed, but after leading for half the journey gave it up. A number of owners here are weeding out their strings. There was an auction sale in the paddock In which six changed hands. Others were disposed of at private sale during the afternoon, among them being Limited, which was sold by Tom Ryan to Joe McLennan after her defeat in the second race. William Walker purchased Sheen of W. Gannon Just before the sixth race and the mare ran in Walkers name. At the paddock sale the following changed hands: Toots, to E. L. Talley, for. 50; Sadie Gay, to S. H. Stlnson, for 5; Quiddity, to U. S. Wishard, for 0; Gold Back, to H. Dold, for 5; Sou prep, to J. Mussum, for ; Glendon, to H. Dold, for 1906.sh5. E. L. Talley has transferred the contract he held on jockey Goldstein to Joe McLennan. W. Brien and R. I. Miller have arranged to ship their stables from here to Windsor on Sunday. Millers string will be augmented at Windsor by four two-year-olds which "Sandy" McNaughton shipped there from Saratoga. In the lot Is: Theyre Off, a colt which finished second at Saratoga a few days ago.
