BIG LISTS FOR DERBY AND OAKS OF 1908. The entries of yearlings for the Derby and the Oaks to be decided in England in 190S are very satisfactory, for they number 301 for the Derby as against 2S5 last year, while the entries for the Oaks are 255 instead of 215. King Edward has taken four nominations for each race, his entry for the Derby comprising four colts by Persimmou, while of the four fillies In the Oaks one is by St. Simon, out of Laodamia, and another by St. Simon, out of Nunsuch. The largest subscriber to the Derby and the Oaks is Sir Tatton Sykes, who has eleven entries In the Derby and eight In the Oaks, and these are all entered in the name of his nephew, Mr. H. Cholmondeley. The Derby entries comprise a filly, by Ayrshire, out of Maid of the Mint; which is a half sister to Spearmint, this years Derby winner, and a bay colt by Ladas, out of Tragedy, a half brother to Wildfowler. Colonel Hall Walker has ten nominations in the Derby, all homebred, and six entries for the Derby are made by the Duke of Portland, Lord Wolverton and Mr. W. Bass, the Duke of Portlands halt dozen, including Panegyric, a colt, by Orme, out of Memoir. Lord Wolyertons half dozen Include a half brother, by Persimmon to the Marsh Marigold colt, which is one of the best two-year-olds of the present season. The Earl of Derby, Sir John Robinson, Sir Richard Waldie-Griffith and Mr. Leopold Rothschild have five entries each, while those who have made- four are, in addition to the King, Lord Rosebery and Sir Robert Jardine, one of Lord Roseberys being Sir Toby, by Sir Visto, out of Gas, the dam of Cicero. Major Eustace Loders three Include a filly, by Galllnule, out of Admiration, full sister to Pretty Polly, and the Duke of Westminsters trio comprise Vamose, a full brother to Flying Fox, by Orme, out of Vampire. The eight Oaks nominations of Sir Tatton Sykes Include the half sister to Spearmint, by Ayrshire, out of Maid of the Mint, and two fillies, by St. Simon and St. Frusquin; while Lord Clonmell and Sir John Robinson have seven entries, the only owner with six nominations being Mr. J. R. Joel, all of whose yearlings are very fashionably bred. The Dukes of Devonshire and Westminster, Major Eustace Loder, Mr. Leopold Rothschild and Colonel Hall Walker have each five entries.. Sir Daniel Cooper has four nominations, Including a sister to Flare, by St. Frusquin, out of Glare, as has Lord Derby, whose nominations include a daughter of St. Frusquin and Canterbury Pilgrim. Among the single nominations for this race, as fop the Derby, is Signonnetta, a daughter of the famous mare Signorina, which has been so shy a breeder. Mr. August Belmont sent over several of his American-bred yearlings to be trained by William Watson. Among them is Dame Beauty, a full sister to Beldame and she has been entered In the Derby and Oaks.
