MAHERS SUCCESS BREEDS JEALOUSY. "That a determined effort is being made to drive Danny Maker, the great American jockey from the English turf is certain. That It will be unsuccessful seems to be equally certain," says a London cablegram. "Mabers skill, his perfect honesty and fair riding have made him immensely popular with the race-going public, and have made him powerful friends who are able to protect him against his enemies, who are numbered principally among that small class, which is steadily losing influence, who are jealous of all things American. At the recent meeting at York, Maker accidentally bumped the favorite in the race and put him out of the running. Danny was reprimanded by the stewards of the meeting. His enemies seized the opportunity and insisted on more drastic, punishment at the hands of the Jockey Club. A further Investigation was held and Maher was exhonerated. The decision of the Jockey Club gave very general satisfaction.
