STEEPLECHASERS WILL GO BACK TO ENGLAND John M. P. and Desert Chief Are to Be Sent Over for Winter Racing. New York, September 27. John M. P. and Desert Chief flitbe English steeplechasers brought to this country early in the season by Grant Hugh Browne, will be returned to England after the Belmont Park meeting. It is understood that they are beiijg sent back to race during the winter, Englands season of cross-country racing. They will be sent to trainer Nugent, who bandied John .M. P. there last -winter, when he proved to be one of the best chasers In the country. This move is such a peculiar one, however, that the suggestion was made by more than one person yesterday that they were only here under lease and had never been purchased outright by Mr. Browne. Sending a horse to England to race in winter after a summer campaign in this country, seems such an unusual proceeding that the Idea was accepted by many, but time alone will settle the question. Overtures have been made to Jimmy Owens to go abroad again and ride the horses this winter, but no agreement has been reached yet;
