J. J. GRANT HAS A GOOD .RECORD. J. J. Grant, who has just been appointed by President Tom Williams to the1 position of track superintendent at Oakland, was for many years manager of the ranch of the late Theodore Winters, near Reno, Nevada. It was there that El Rio Rey, one of the best racehorses the world ever knew, was produced. After the death of Mr. Winters, Mr. Grant became the superintendent of James B. Hag-gins lately dispersed Rancho del Paso Stud in California. Mr. Grant is In the east just now, but. he will shortly start west to enter upon his new duties. Mr. Grant has never had a chance to show what he can do In the way of keeping racetracks in condition, but he has long had a reputation among horsemen of beiag a famous handler qfjSjrearlluss
