RACING FOR PITTSBURG. NEW TRACK IN WEST VIRGINIA -IS :T0 B BUILT NEXT JUNE; -. . Messrs. Winn and Rhinock Are the Promoters Plant to Cost Half Million Dollars Money" Has Been Subscribed. ; Pittsburg, Pa., October 10. It Is now certatn that a racetrack will be opened in this vicinity next year. The prpmoters are Congressman Joseph L. Rhinock of Kentucky and Matt J. Winn, president of tho American Tnrf Association and general manager of the plant of the New Louisville Jockey Clnb. Options have been taken on three or four sites in West Virginia, all within forty miles of this, city and all lying on one or more railroads and trolley lines. A choice of these options will be made during tho coming fortnight. It is practically certain, however, that the location to be chosen 13 the one directly across the river from Stenberivllle, Ohio. This is someh ting, less than an hours ride from Pittsburg and is reached . by the Pennsylvania and Wabash Railroads. The money has all been subscribed and immediately the site is selected, a Jockey club, will be organized. Messrs. Rhinock and Winn wer,e hero the first part of the week-and it is the understanding of those who have their confidence that the plant Is to be ready for racing next June. Winn Confirms Pittsburg Story. Louisville, Ky., October 10. A racetrack in West Virtflna, within foVty miles of Pjttsburgy is a certainty. Messrs. Rhinock and Winn, who. have just returned ifrompPltfsburg made-ciMsy-annonnccHieTit today. Mr. Winn says the location of theplant will likely be just across the river from Stenbenville. It is to cost a half million dollars. The capital will be furnished by Pittsburg, West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky people. -The plant will be modem In every respect and Mr. Winn, who is to be its general manager, expects it to-be completed in- time for a meeting next June. This project .has been under consideration for about four -months. Shortly after the Churcnill Downs meeting last spring Mr. Winn went to Pittsburg to look .over some ground in the neighborhood available for racetrack-purposes. After much-dicter-ing he secured options on tracts near Steubenville and Glen Cove Then he set about .to Interest influential business men and politicians in the venture. He has succeeded in. securing the co-operation of people who will try to protect the sport.- There was one; tract of land that Mr. Winn looked over, but decided . that . it .would not do for- racing; purposes. Shortly after he departed, one of John Condons men, presumably Charles Miers, brought surveyors there -and in going over it, located an oil well, a veritable gusher, now the place cannot be had, it is . said..
