DALLAS MEETING OPENS AUSPICIOUSLY. Attendance 6,000 in Spite of Cold Weather Twenty-Four Bookmakers in Line. Dallas, Texas, October 13. Today opened a new epoch in Texas racing. With six running races a day, the entrance to purses abolished and no purse less than 00 Dallas has taken Its place among the coming, racing centers of America. A crowd of at least 6,000 people crowded the stand while twenty-four bookmakers drew in for three days. The day was cold and threatening and the crowd and business were remarkable under the conditions. The first race resulted in a head victory for Henry Bachelors fast mare, Lady Vashti, which beat Toots Mook, the Canadian wonder and others. The second race, a selling affair for two-year-olds, went to George Baldwins Montalbari, which beat The Bear a head. The third race marked the appearance of J. W. Fullers good colt, First Premium. He was at odds-on and had a busy time to beat Dr. Hollis a head. Durbar k, Scalplock and Hall le Sherman were the other winners. Joseph A. Murphy Is the presiding judge. Vhe meeting . will end October 28. It is being conducted under the auspices of the State Fair of Texas.
