FEATURES AT FAIR 1AT0NIA. JOCKEY NICOL PUT UNDER SUSPENSION FOR THE MEETING FOR FOUL RIDING. Martha Gormans Surprising: Defeat Steeplechaser Barnes Breaks a Leg: and is Destroyed Toboggan Disqualified. Cincinnati, O., November 2.-Jockey Dave Nicol was suspended today for the remainder of the meeting by the judges because of foul riding. The punishment was meted out to "the rider after the disqualification of Nlcols mount, Toboggan, which won the fifth race from the oddson favorite Mc-Chord. By the disqualification McChord was given the race. Judge Price in announcing the suspension stated that Nicol was also guilty of having sharply 4 impeded The Clansman and Joe Coyne in the third race while astride Martha Gorman. The disqualification of Toboggan was attended with the usnal grumbling from those who held tickets on Streetts horse. Joe Coynes defeat of Martha Gorman was the chief surprise during the afternoon. With Nicol up the Respess mare was considered next to a certainty. Joe Coyne took her measure handily, despite-the poor handling he was subjected to and the interference he had to overcome. Both the short priced favorites, Barnes and Ro-jectable, came to grief in the steeplechase. Barnes fell at the first obstacle on. account of a failure t clear the jump and broke his leg. He was destroyed later on. Rejectable raced with the leaders over the first four jumps before going- down. Judge Price announced the reinstatement today of steeplechase jockey C. Johnson, who was"suB-pended during the summer meeting here for a faulty ride on Arc Light. McChord was bid up 00 over his entered price of a like amount by J. S. Ward and retained. Lon Jones bid up Daring 00 over his entered price of 00. His owner retained him. J. B. Respess purchased King Pepper today from J. Slack for the reported price of 00. There was a report today that H. J. Perry Is In a critical condition and fears for his recovery are entertained. Harry Kuhl passed through the city en route to New York where he goes in the Interest of the City Park track to look after entries for the stakes to be decided this winter. Mr. Kuhl seemed much improved in health. J. II. Baker has purchased Rain Dance from FJ. Baxter. Jockey Johanessen was fined 5 by the starter while at the post for the second race. . . There is a report that the horses owned by M. H. Tichenor and Co. will be shipped to Los Angeles where they will lie raced this winter in charge of G. W. Poole, formerly trainer for the stablel
