MINNIE ADAMS RUNS AWAY FROM TARTAN. Pretension in Another Good Performance Nicol Allowed to Ride for Fred Cook. Cincinnati, O., November 3. Mild weather and a good card were Instrumental in attracting a big crowd to Latonia this afternoon. The handicap at one mile was the stellar offering of the afternoon and brought together a good field of horses including Minnie Adams, and her recent conqueror, Tartan. At the weights and with Nicol up the Cook filly was considered best and liberally backed. She won all the way from Noel, a well backed long shot. Debar finishing third and Tartan outside of the money. Buchanans presence in the saddle on Pretension caused the price about him to recede at an alarming rate in the sprint race. Opening at 7 to 10 -he drifted to 7 to 5. Judge Price was quick to take cognizance of the raise in price and cautioned Buchanan when on the way to the post to do his best- The horse acted fractiously while at the barrier and unseated the rider while in a tantrum, Buchanan however retained a good hold of the reins thereby preventing him from running away. He followed the leaders closely to the stretch turn where he moved up fast and won drawing away from the lightly-weighted Grace Kimball. Haeelthorpe, which was backed by the sharpshooters, ran disappointingly and failed to finish in the money. The following horses were sold in the paddock today: Wool Soap for 0, to J. J. Flannlgan; Before for 5, to J. C. Ferriss, Jr.; Mayor Duncan for 1906.sh5, to G. H. McGuire; Leo Bright for 05, to A. K. Miller; Light Opera for 5, to J. C. Ferriss, Jr.; Windshield for 0, to J. C. Ferriss, Jr. The judges relented somewhat in their ruling against jockey Nicol and allowed him to ride for his contract employer. The crack rider rode both his employers horses, Minnie Adams and Tom Dolan to victory. Crafty and John Kaufman furnished a close finish in the second -race. Crafty taking the purse In the final stride. He was bid up to ,000 an advance of 00 over his entered price and secured by R. L. Thomas. "Kansas" Price in retaliation claimed John Kaufman, paying for him ,000. Hadur, the beaten favorite in the closing race, was claimed by F. W. Schmidt, owner of Gladiator, for 00. J. C. Milam closed a contract today for the services of D. Austin to ride for him this winter at New Orleans.
