AMATEURS RIDE WELL AT PIMLICO. Baltimore, Md., November 3. This was a day of days at the old Pimlico course. What with gentlemen riders performing in the Caswell Cup and with the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase down for decision, it was but natural that one of the best crowds that ever packed a grandstand and lawn was on hand. It gave a line on what the association can expect when It builds its new and modern course at Halethorpe. Only two favorites won out of the six that ran, but there was not a race that the layers did not lose to. This was especially true of the one won by Hooray. Quadrille, the favorite, was not much in demand, while there was quiet backing for Tony Atstes Hooray. The latter was at the enticing price of 15 to 1 and when he won the books lost heavily. Quadrille got away badly, in fact, was practically left at the post. The excellent weather had dried the course out thoroughly. The steeplechase was one of the best Keen this season in the east, and the Caswell Cup rare was of the same order, neither being decided until in the very last stages of the struggles. Mr. James Young, of Philadelphia, who has been prominent at all of the second circuit meetings in the east, presented Dion Kerr and Mr. Tucker with diamond scarf pins as a reward for their excellent riding in the two races.
