N EARING THE CLOSE AT OLD PIMLICO TRACK. Orphan Lad Shipped to Bennings Intended Campaigners at Ascot Park in Consternation. Baltimore, Md., November IS. There was a tinge of winter In the air today that made overcoats necessary. Still, as the storm held on and the track waa greatly improved, the racing was far better thau had been anticipated, in fact It was good. The success of the meeting, together with what has been the result for several years back, has induced the management to rush the completion of the plans for the new track. The Maryland Jockey Club directors held a meeting this morning and decided to break ground at once at Halethorpe, Md., with the idea of having the new course ready for the fall meeting of next year. The stock of the new organization will be distributed among some of the best people, not alone of this city, but at all points where the social element is a part of turf affairs. The new track will be about ten minutes from Baltimore and about thirty-eight from Washington, on both the Pennsylvania and the Baltimore and Ohio railroads. Starter Dade has consented to partially lift the suspension of jockey J. Hennessy and has agreed to let him ride for his employer, Willie Shields, tomorrow. Orphan Lad will be shipped to Bemilngs in the morning as he id to be a starter In the Grand Consolation Stakes that will be run as one of the features of the opening of the meeting of the Washington Jockey Club. This colt Is better now than he has been all season and it will take a pretty shifty one to beat him. A seemingly malicious rumor reached here today that there would not be any racing In Los Angeles this winter and the tale brought consternation among- the horsemen, who were planning a winter campaign at Ascot Park. Several wired for confirmation of the story, but no replies were received. C. E. Mahone will ship his entire string from here to Hot Springs, where he will rest up pending the opening of the gates at Oaklawn Park in February.
