King Pepper quickly ran Into the lead and set the pace all the way, overcame interference and came fast and gamely through the stretch and won a good race by a narrow margin. The Thrall received a masterly ride from Gannon, closed, an early gap and, coming with a rush through the last furlong, would have won in another stride or two. Red Thistle ran a good race, but tired in the final drive. "Bensonhurst showt-d his usual flight of early speed, but quit in the stretch. Dan McKenna got away well, but was caught in a ani and shut out of forward contention early in the race John Garner was going well in the stretch. Optional closed a big gap in the last quarter. Tanager, well ridden, was in close pursuit all the way and, being favored by clear sailing, had no mishaps and was easily the best of the others. Caper ran forwardly nearly throughout,. wasmessed about In the early .stages, but closed a gap and finished fast. The Golden Bird had bad racing luck in the early stages. Goldproof set a fast pace and, although tiring, held on resolutely to the end. Toboggan, always in keen contention, followed the leaders closely and tired In the stretch run, but outgamed Matador for third place. The latter ran well and finished close up.
