DOLLY SPANKER OUT TWICE. FINISHES THIRD IN THE FIRST AND WINS THE. LAST RACE AT BENNINGS. "Two Races a Day" Stunt Becoming Popular Millers Saturday Success Brings Him a Multitude of Backers Fine Weather. Washington, D. C, November 20. Running a horse in two races the .same day seems to be a good rule here, at any rate it has worked with profit to the trainer adopting such tactics. Thursday New York ran second in two races, with a lorn: price about him the second time. Today Tom Ilealey sent Dolly Spanker to the post in two races. In the opening race this gelding ruled a slight favorite and was just beaten out by Pretension and Avaun-teer. Ilealey sent him back in the closing race and, with Miller up, he was the easiest sort of a winner over indifferent competitors. He was agaiu the favorite, going to the post at 7 to 5. After Millers good record of Saturday the hero worshipers llockcd to his mounts, but the shrewd speculators were inclined to be careful, looking for a setback for the lad. The public made Avaunteer, his mount in the opening race, a 11 to 5 shot, when with any other boy up he would have been at least S to 1. Miller could not quite get him home, but Pretension only beat him by a matter of inches. Miller then won the third race with Firebrand and the closing race with Dolly Spanker, takiug two out of four races in which he rode. The weather was more like September than November and a splendid crowd was in evidence. Dolly Spanker was the only winning favorite. A well-planned coup was upset when Pioneer fell in the. steeplechase. He was backed from 5 to 1 to 2 to 1, but came to grief at the first fence. There will be a number of horses sold iu the jia dd6ekVrQThurhi?,rc-to and several two-year-olds from the barn of Perry Belmonr. . . . .
