IMPROVED RACING AT HOT SPRINGS. Starter Cassidy, However, Makes a Bad Start in the Feature and Ralbert Wins Easily. Hot Springs, Ark.. Pebmary 26. — There was noticeable Improvement in the racing this afternoon at Oaklawn and a banner crowd was on hand lo witness the sport. Over night the track dried out considerable and by the time racing began it was altmr good and improving as the afternoon progressed. The principal offering was the fourth race which brought together a good band of sprinters at three quarters of a mile. A keen contest was expcited. but much interest was taken from the race by tin- nrhd off. It was starter CassidyS poorest rffortjdlf the meeting. Ralbert was away running while™rhe principal contenders were in a tangle. Jake Sanders made a desperate effort to overhaul tiie leader, but failed nearly a length.. Willi an even start he would have won easily. C. II. Shilling, ridden by the jockey for wheat he was named, in the opening race, was discarded ill favor of Financier, which had shown well in trials at Memphis. C. H. Shilling, however, received the? heal ride and defeated Financier by a neck. There is no anestlea that Financier is the lietter colt ami win n he hares what is wanted of him he will develop Into a star. Mike Suttons defeat was severely criticized ami ceased Jadge Bryan to question jockey Burton. The boys statement that he had beea almost thrown a; the start by getting into a jam was corroborated by starter Cassidy. Jockey Aubuchon nan two winners. Betas Regente in the third race and Shenandoah in the closing race. Chieftain took the filth race in commanding style. Jockey D. Austin was lined 850 by the starter for disoUdience at the post in the fourth race. Bess Ward, the star two-year-old filly in J. C. Milams stable, has go/ie amiss and her trainer fears that it will lie some tome before she will again be in good condition to race. The order barring Btaiplsrh from starting here has been rescinded. Drnspcts an- for a heavy, or at least quite slow track tomorrow, but a fairly average card has been Offered with a number of useful racers named to start in one or the other of the races, among which might 1h mentioned: Rustle, Dandy Dancer, Flar-ney; Marathon.
