DAINTY DAMES IMPRESSIVE RACE. Ancient Is a Good One— Zal Quits In the Stretch — R. C. Rann Scores. Lexington. Ky.. April 30. — Local owners were again murh in evidence today, the winners of four of the races l eiug furnished by stables which have wintered at the Kentucky Association course. In the second race Dainty Dame made her first appearance of the season ami spreadeagled her company, winning in a little better than a good exercise gallop. She has filled out and developed Into one of the finest looking three year-olds racing here. It will take a good one to .eat her in her engagements along the line. In the openiug race the Cesarion tilly. Ancient, which was left at the post on the opening day. showed her true merit by simply walking away from the others today. She went to the front after they had gone a quarter and was haul held all of the last furlong. Ikt tirst run-up of the meeting came after the third race. Bourbon News was entered for $."i 0. and Frank Risk, formerly starter at Suburban Fark In Algiers. I_miisiana. bid him up to ,000 and secured him at that figure. Grover Hughes, trainer for J. H. Patterson, who was represented in the race by Rossessa. put in a claim for Gainbrinus, hut on protest from William Get at the claim was not allowed, as Hughes was unable to show that he was an authorized agent for Patterson. Gainbrinus had a large following and his defeat was a keen disappointment. The colt had worked very fast, but a poor start ruined his chances. Boland kept breaking through the barrier with Cambrians in an attempt to get the lccst of the start and when they were finally sent away he got the worst of it. As a result of his anxiety at I he post Boland earned a suspension for the remainder of the meeting, besides of a fine of 00. Zal. William Cersts Kentucky Derby candidate, made his final appearance before the big race, in the mile handicap this afternoon, in which lie was defeated by John 1.. Iuglis. Zal showed to much better advantage than he did Saturday, but at that his race BTM far from what one would etepeet of a Derby colt. Zal displayed speed for six furlongs and then quit, which would lead one to believe that he is not a horse that fancies a long route. K. C. Rami. J. C. Milams two year old, which worked so fast at Memphis before being shipped here and which was touted as being a high class celt, beat Great Pirate out a head today after a driving finish. While R. C. Rami will probably win races, he is far from the colt his people claim. Delia Thorpe made an exhibition of the others in the sixth race. She went to the front when called on and drew away in the last quarter under restraint. Edward Corrigan and II u . Brown were among the visitors at the course this afternoon. Mr. Cor rigan came from Chicago, while Brown came on from New Orleans. The track will he slow tomorrow, but the purses have filled well, and with such horses as Barnsdale. rieming. Vipsania: Skyo. John Marrs. Black Mary; Boxara. Ifortfhogr, The AI.IkW : Bucket Brigade. Wild Cherry. Civet: Posing, king Leopold. La Fayette: Dirk Kedd. Golden Mineral and Request among the probable starters there should tee good and well eon tested racing. t. K. Lynch.
