SMATHERS IN THE GAME AGAIN. New York, August 30. W. O. Joplin has gone to" -Montreal with jockey Koemer and the horses Rio Grande, Javotte, Jersey Lady, Adrian, Orena and Miss Padden. It is understood that these horses are owned by E. E. Sinatbrrs and Al Matthews. SniatlMis, It Is reported, bwght Rio Grande from F. A. Jorsythe for ,500 nul Javotte from the Oneck Stable. The details V the new combination have not been given to the Aiublic, but it is presumed that Smathers is backing Matthews. It is aiot expected that the horses Mil come back to the Hocal tracks after the Montreal meeting. They will probably remain on the northern circuit until the close al Toronto and then go south.
