LAYERS ON THE MOVE AT FORT ERIE. L. C. Widrig Loses the Purse in Fourth Race Because of Incorrect Weight. Buffalo, N. Y., August 30. Favorites, and well-backed second choices swept the card at Fort Erie today. The track was in excellent condition for racing and good time was made. The card was featureless, but the first race attracted the most attention. Whisk Broom jumped Into the lead and was never headed, but was compelled to do her best at the end to stall off the rush of Ketchem-ike. The latter would have won in another stride. Frontenac, the favorite, linished third. The layers, in view of Judge Cruikshanks decision finding them guilty of maintaining a betting booth, were on the move today. They had no Used place for accepting wagers. Joe .McLennan, the owner of Revery, which finished second to L. C. Widrig in the fourth race, protested the purse on the ground that L. C. Widrig carried the weight assigned to a gelding. The judges sustained the claim and the purse was awarded to Revery. nM,T,1,,hltt aftcr the laBt ract?. M P Doubt 00 over his entered price. P. M.
