RECORD MUTUEL ODDS IN FRANCE. A Paris cablegram says that James II. Ilennessy, whose weakness Is backing rank outsiders, secured at the Chantilly race course the largest amount won on an outsider since the Paris intituel system was instituted on the French turf. lie asked lies-nard, a well-known bookmaker, to take a bet at Paris mutnel odds on Scableuse, Cotnte Gerard de Ganays filly, by Isinglass, which ran badly at DeauvIIle. The amount staked was ?200 for a win and a similar amount for place. Practically nobody backed Scableuse, not even her owner, so when she romped home the Paris mutuel returned odds of nearly ISO to 1, yielding Ilennessy ?30,1C0. The largest paying mutuel of record in this country was ,17S for a 5 ticket on Nickajack at Jerome Park, October 12, 1S72.- The odds in this instance were .34.00 to 1.
