NOTES OF THE TURF. William Steele is breaking Julius Bauers yearlings at Kenmore Farm near Lexington, Ky. The first foal of Gunfire arrived at Kingston Stud a few days ago. It is a brown lilly by Meddler. John Rodegap is to train the first foal of Louisville, a yearling colt, by Lamplighter, for W. II. McCorkle. The Kentucky Association is considering plans for the building of a steeplechase course at the Lexington track next winter. John Mackay says the weanling colt by Royal Flush III. Briar Sweet will prove the equal of any thoroughbred ever owned by J. B. Haggin. Harry Cochran has been. advised by the Jockey Club that the stewards will issue him a jockeys license when he Intends leaving to till an engagement abroad. Advices from Los Angeles are to the effect that J. W. Brooks, general manager of the Ascot Park track, has been offered a similar position at Arcadia and will probably accept it. In addition to the victory of Schuyler in the Prix la Rogette on the ooening day at Chantilly, Mohawk and Foresight also from the stable of W. K. Vanderbilt, finished second in their respective races. The Seattle meeting will close next Saturday. A delegation of Saratoga business men visited the ulllces of the Jockey Club in New York Thursday with a request that Saratoga bo granted twenty days of racing" next August without opposition from any New York track. L. V. Bellew was offered ,300 Thursday afternoon for the Meddler Chinkara filly that had been knocked down to him for 00 at the Kingston Stud sale that morning. lie refused the offer and says lie is satisfied he lias a bargain in tills youngster which comes from the family of Spearmint, winner of the Epsom Derby and Grand Prix de Paris in 1900.
