JIMMY MCORMICKS BAD BET. Jimmy McCormicks little rider, Sumter, had the mount on Chief Hayes, when he won at Gravesend last Monday, says the New York Telegraph. Mc-Cormick watched the race from the press stand. "Whos that In front?" asked he at the quarter. "De Mund," said a scribe. "Wheres Chief Hayes?" "Hell be second In a -moment." "Where is he now?" as they turned into the stretch. "Why, hes second, and hes going to win." "Yes. he wins, with my boy np," said McCor-mick, disgusted. "And I bet 00 on De Mund."
