PECULIAR, ENGLISH RACING. THE 1908 ALLOTMENT OF DATES PROVIDES FOR 136 MEETINGS. Only27 of These Last Over Two Days and None Over Four Thirty Are of One Days Duration. In England the details of Hat racing are arranged and prescribed witlt clock-like precision by the Jockey Club. Similarly jumping racing is governed by the stewards of the National Hunt committee. Already nearly all the racing dates of 100S have been parcelled out and published. The allotment to latest reports covers 130 race meetings in Eng- land, Scotland and Wales. The greatest number of days allowed any meeting is four. Tlie meetings of tills number of days are the Newmarket First Spring, Epsom Summer, Manchester Whitsuntide, Ascot, Newmarket First July, Goodwood, Doncaster September, Newmarket First October, Newmarket Second October, Newmarket Houghton and Liverpool Autumn. Those are tlie great and aristocratic turf reunions of England and their brevity is in curious contrast to the time deemed necessary by American racing organizations. The English fiat racing season of 100S will begin at Lincoln Monday, March 211 and terminate at Manchester Saturday, November 2S. The first week of racing will cover three days at Lincoln and three days at Liverpool. After that every week lias at least two meetings, but the majority have inore. Those already allotted are in length as follows: Meetings of one day only .50 Meetings of two days each 7! Meetings of three days each 10 Meetings of four days each 11 Total 13G A one-day meeting would be viewed witlt great scorn by track managers in this country, but in compact and populous England they are frequently great money makers, especially in the cases of such enclosed tracks in the vicinity of London as Sundown Park, Kemptou Park. Alexandra Park, Newbury, Hurst Park, etc. Alexandra Park, for instance, has five meetings of one day each assigned to it for 100S. Each falls on a Saturday and the profit of each day will be immense, sufficient to defray all expenditures, pay a good slock dividend and leave a goodly sum over for surplus and contingencies. The more fashionable Sandown and Kempton Park tracks profit enormously on their racing days, but are not confined to one-day meetings. Sandown has three meetings of two days each and one of one day. Kempton Park has two of two tlays and three of one day. Over these two tracks some of tlie richest prizes of the English turf are decided. In this country no man now knows on what day of next year the Kentucky Derby, Krooklyn Handicap, Suburban Handicap, Krighton Handicap, Kelmont Stakes, Coney Island Jockey Club Stakes, Saratoga Special, Futurity Slakes or any of tlie other great events of the American turf will be decided. This will not be known until the different governing bodies allot racing dates early in 1U0S. Hut in England all patrons ol the turf know now the exact days, when not alone the Two Thousand Guineas, Epsom Derby and Doncaster-St. Leger will be run, but the dates also -of nearly every fixed event to be decided in the course of the racing of 1!0S. To show the truth of this, Daily Racing Form presents this list of great English stakes and the dates set for their running next year: Lincolnshire Handicap, Lincoln, 1 mile, March 24.
