AQUEDUCT FAVORITES FAIL WELBOURNE THE ONLY DECIDED FIRST CHOICE TO SCORE. Dolly Spanker Defeats Glenecho for the Stonybrook Stakes Sainesaw Takes a Race Alauda Wins. New York, November 11. There was only one favorite lirst home at Aqueduct this afternoon, although several of the winners were well supported. Welbourne was tin; single successful choice, but Holly Spanker, another of the winners, was an Mnal choice, at the close, with Glenecho, both goiiiy to the post at an even money quotation. The feature of the day was the Stonybrook Stakes, a sellin;; affair at a mile and a sixteenth. This was the race won by Dolly Spanker. It was reduced by scratching until only Glenecho and Moonshine opposed the Wilson starter. As the race was run, Dolly Spanker was much the best, hut Glenecho. on the strength of recent good races, had a very confident following. Trailing his opponents Dolly Spanker came away when called On in the stretch to win as his rider pleased by four lengths. Glenecho was almost as easily better than Moonshine. Wilson, Jr., for he scored in the lirst race with Alauda. It was a mile-selling" for two-year-olds and Blaeksheep was the one selected by the public, although there was not enough in his recent form to warrant the belief that he could beat Alauda. It was Blaeksheep that made the pace, but in the stretch Alauda easily ran by him to win by a length going away. A race through the steeplechase field for three-year-old maidens went to Watersyeed after she had been backed from 5 to 1 down to 2 to 1 at the close. In this race Percentage was the one chosen on what he had shown at Iiiulico. There is small doubt but lie was best, but when two fences from .he linish he fell and Waterspeed, which had been ,- second throughout, was first home, though she was sent to a drive to fteat out St. Nick, which finished very resolutely. Murilla, the only other starter, had fallen in the second turn of the course, but was remounted and finished for the short end of the purse. Sally Preston took the six and a half furlongs for lillles and mares, rather easily after Handzarra had led well into the stretch. In this race Cressina was the one chosen, but she was very badly ridden by Horner and at no time reached a contending position, Comedienne racing to second place, with Tartar Maid third. Welbourne was easily best after several scratches in the mile and a furlong handicap, and, trailing to the stretch, came away to win with something to spare from Smiling Tom and Agile. At the end of the program Sainesaw, one that had only started once before since the New Orleans meetings, won easily from a field of maiden fillies and geldings. In this race Lady Corinue, the favorite, could only reach third place. George Boles, whose ring actions have brought about his suspension from making book, will probably be denied the privileges of the track tomorrow. Tlie ruling was not announced, but from an authori-taive source it was said that such action would lie taken.
