St. Bede broke slowly, but closed up steadily and swiftly and drew out right at the end. Kerry ran in forward pursuit of the pacemaker in the early running, but tired unexpectedly in the last stride. Uerives broke slowly, but improved bis position ,quickly and set the pace in the middle running, but quit finally. Sir Wesley suffered from crowding at tlie start and closed a big gap. Karennina, from a striding start, set the pace to the last turn, but failed to stay. The others were beaten off. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. Scratched 71S50 Snapdragon, 107. Willis Green ran within striking distance of the leaders from" the start and drew out in the stretdi. but was suddenly challenged in the last sixteenth and only won after a hard drive home. Gaimet steadily improved his position from an indifferent start into a fast going second. St. Albans set the early paee. hut was vrowdetl back and came again with a belated stretch rush. L. C. Ackerley drew out on the back stretch into the lead, but quit badly in the stretch. Vinton, after close and strenuous pnrsiiit of the early pacemakers, failed to stay. Glamor had 110 mishaps and, while outpaced for the first half, made up ground, at tlie end. The, winner was entered for 00; no bid. Overweights St. Albans, 1 pound; L. C. Ackerley, 2. Spring Ban, away slowly, showed unexpected early speed and, after forward pursuit of the winner, saved second place "in the last stride of a game finish. Northwest, under a poor ride, wis repeatedly shut off, then came along on the inside with a belated stretch rush. Mike Jordan, crowded back at the half, closed up rapidly in the last three furlongs of a whirlwind liuish. Pontotoc, crowded to the rear at the half, closed a gan at the end. Won driving; second and third the same. Rifleman, alertly ridden, drew out with a rush and set a terrific pace throughout and earned a remarkably ame victory. "Peter Sterling began slowly and maintained striking distance pursuit of the leader, but turned widefor home and lost ground, then came finally with a belated challenge, but could not quite get up, although linishiug wearing the winner down. Johnny Lyons ran in nearest pursuit of the winner to the last sixteenth and tired finally after a grand race. Legatee ran forwardly for a mile, then tired. San Alviso, sliufiled back at the half, closed up steadily into a fast going fifth. Molesey was bumped back at the start and, closing up rapidly, loomed up menacingly on the last turn, but failed and swerved badly Jn the last furlong. Bed Leaf ran well up, but was not good enough. Rapid Water broke slowly, but improved his position rapidly and got up in the last stride of a long, bard drive and was lucky. Gemmell, from a striding start, was pinched back early, then ran leisurely in close pursuit of the pacemaker and drew out in the stretch, appearing all over the winner, but his rider was caught napping at the end. Fireball set a tremendous pace to the stretch and, after being passed midway home, came again with a surprising rush. Aunt Polly showed superior early speed, but failed to stay. Ocean Shore, from a luckv start, ran in close pursuit of the pacemakers with clear sailing and made good in a remarkably game stretch drive. Early Tide, away poorly, closed up rapidly and challenged in the stretch, but failed to get up in a game race. Como. on the inside and roughly treated, was crowded back on the far turn, but gained rapidly in the last quarter. Blondy, crowded back at the start, met repeated iniprference and closed a big gap in the last half. Cloudlight, after early prominence, failed to stay. Albion II. made up much ground at the end. Sewell had a poor start and was nearly left, but ran a bad race. St. Francis set a terrific pace, but quit finally.
