LADY RENSSELAER DEFEATS QUEENS GROVE. Paradise Queen Runs a Bad Race — McChord Outruns Opponents — Cinnabar Breaks a Leg. Los Angeles, Cal., February 27. — The racing was marred today by am accident to Cinnabar, which fell a few feet beyond the timers stand after the finish of the fifth race, breaking his left foreleg. He was not destroyed until after the spectaors had left the track. The card today was made up, in most cases, of the cheapest platers here. The only race of any pretension being the sixth, which was won by Toupee, the favorite. Orcagna had no trouble in winning the opening race. Off to a quick break he opened a big lead in the first furlong and simply cantered out in front for the rest of the journey. Sparkles was badly outrun early, but closed a big gap in the final quarter and secured second place in a fast-closing rush. Lady Rensselaer made her first start at this track, running in the colors of her new owner, and won, the race by a close finish. Queens Grove made the running, but succumbed to the winner in the last stride of a game race. The favorite. Paradise Queen, ran a remarkably bad race for such a fast filly as she has beyond dispute proved herself to be. Fair Fagot had the most speed of those starting in the third race and increased his advantage as the race progressed, winning by four lengths. Our Anna occupied second place throughout and finished gamely. Dr. Crook closed a big gap in the stretch under punishment and outstayed Playlit for third place. MeCliord was the first favorite to win during the afternoon. He led all the way. but was tiring at he end and was probably a. trifle short. Prince Frederick came from the rear in the stretch ami took second place easily from Bauble, which finished fighting it out with Lady Vas-hti for third place. B. J. Baldwin, was a visitor at the track today.
