Novgorod, from a flatfooted start, was shuffled back and linished fairly well. Tom Hayward was well up throughout. Schmoezer, rounding to and promising, got nway badly and closed a gap. Prince of Orange, 7 afte,r being reserved in the rear for a mile and a half, moved up with a challenge in the stretch and 7 •momentarily seemed the winner. Kogo, hard held and messed about throughout, finished an easy third 7 with his jockev sitting still. Rotrou was pulled up at the end of a mile and a quarter. Maxtress, from a flatfooted start, worked through a rough journey and made up . fllteen lengths in the last half under a bad ride. Lone Wolf, shuffled to the rear early, closed an immense gap. Ed Davis, from a lucky start, ran in nearest pursuit for seven furlongs, but tired badly in Hie closing strides. All Ablaze and Bill Curtis both unexpectedly failed to stay and Bill Curtis pulled up lame. .Tackfull showed early speed. The winner was entered for 00: no bid1.
