WASHINGTON TURF PATR0N6 WELL PLEASED. Low Class Horses Race, but Furnish Exciting Contests and Game Finishes. Washington. 1. C. March 25. — Several very interest ing races came out of the indifferent program arranged for today, the feature being the steeplechase in which the J. W. Colt entry. Percentage and Pen-arris finished one-two in easy fashion. Percentage led almost from start to finish and. jumping faultlessly, showed that he had been well trained for this meeting. Penarris, for a green jumper, is promising. He will undoubtedly make a good horse through the field for he has plenty of sp ed and showed today that jumping is his forte. Prowler ran away while on his way to the post for the first race, making the circuit Of the track at top speed and ran in last osition through out. The public had backed the horse almost to the exclusion of everything else and the victory of Nanno was pleasing to the perambulators. The Aftongreen Stud of General W. T. Town s furnished the winner of the two-year -old race In Taboo. Bonnie Kelso run green, but finished fast and is probably a good on ■. The withdrawal from the third race of Animus and Lally, which were carded to start iu subsequent races, left but three starters, Poquessing outstaying Oraculum in the strdch drive. The latter is a bad horse now and was soundly beaten after running a half mile. William Shields saddled a good thing In Or. Lee. winner of the fourth race. Dr. Lee op ned a big gap right after the *tart and was never menaced. Call Boy finished gamely and was easily second best. Hartford Boy was left at the post. Animus won the closing race, running for the first time in the colors of John E. Madden, and was promptly bid up 0 above his entered price by his former owner, Albert Simons. The run up was letting Madden down easy, as he had wagered heavily on. the horse at the good price of 2 to 1. The backing of Beidmoore enabled Madden to get the price. The weather is threatening again tonight and there probably will be a heavy track tomorrow. Sixty-four bookmakers were on, the lawn.
