Cook, from a flying start, set the pace throughout, but scored luckily. Nagazam. away poorly, moved up rapidly into forward contention and finished wearing the leader down. Lord Nelson, from a striding start, ran in prominent and game contention throughout. John H. Sheehan, held at the post, away badly and pocketed to the stretch, finished fast and probably was best. Dr. Coleman ran Japped on the winner for five furlongs before tiring. Dick Wilson was shuffled back quickly. Combury was as good as left. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. Del Cruzador broke well and drew out after a furlong had been traversed, won off cantering and is a coming good one. Ocean Maid, from a striding start, got into quick and nearest pursuit and was a very game, but lucky, second. Captain John, away slowly on the extreme outside, was a fast coming third and is another coming good one. Tom Hayward ran prominently all the way and. after being shut off midway of the stretch, was a close up and fast going fourth. Bill Eaton was shuffled quickly to the rear and closed a big gap. Arcourt. well up throughout, finished unexpectedly well into a fast going second. Tetanus, sl.utllod about in the middle running, came along at the end and outstayed Kogo and Royal Maxim. Kogo was inider a pull for a mile and a half, but unexpectedly failed to stay. Royal Maxim set the middle pace and drew out in the last quarter, but tired. Pontotoc ran all over the track. Grace G., shut off and knocked to the rear at the start, also closed a big gap in a cracking effort. St. Francis, after early pursuit of the winner, failed to stay and was short. Fred Bent tired. The latter ran a good mile, but tired palpably in the final sixteenth under the whip. Rardonia showed speed, but tired badly in the final sixteenth. Fctrv Wickes quit.
