FORM OF NEW ORLEANS TWO-YEAR-OLDS. Instructive Analysis of the Merits of the Youngsters Raced Over Southern Tracks. New Orleans. La.. March 2C— Now that the local racing season is Hearing an end, it is possible to indicate with a good deal of accuracy the quality of the two-year-olds that have lieen developed here this winter. No really first-class ones have be.-n brought out. but the showing has been a surprisingly good one. as more youngsters of the better class have gon to the post than in any other season. L. A. Vilas stable has far outclassed all others both in the huhiIht and the- caliber of its juvenile- material. Mr. Cella has started ten two-year-olds. Of the sc eight have been returned winners. The following of his youngsters earned brackets as stated: Marse Abe. S races, including the- Carnival Stak.s; Sea Swell. .". including the Premier Stakes; Ladv I.e-ota, 1: Fore. 1: Irrigator, 1; She Wolf, 1; Ario-.iette. 2. and Inela. 1. This is a most remarkable showing and one that was Deter before cvem approached here. The suc-coss of the Cella two-year-olds is responsible for the- fact that the Si. Louis turfman now h.-aels the list of winning owners with something like :1,000 to his credit. Marse Abe and Sea Swell are; not only the best of the Cella lot that have started, but much the be-st of all the other juveniles that have Billed colors on the local tracks this winter. The stable people- say Sea Swell is the be-tter of the pair, but th • writer would prefer to take a chance on Marse Abe. both on bree-ding and e-onformalion. as well on game-ness. weight-carrying ability anil winning quality. Besides his eight wins, he only started on.- other time wh.-n he finished second to Sea Swell in the Premie-r Stakes. This is a most notable record for any two-year-old so early in the seas. ii. Mars • Abe is of me-elium size, but he is a stout, well proportioned, smooth actioned. wiry type, one- that, if he- trains on. will make a very valuable bone, for betting purposes at any rate. Mr. Cella has some t n other two-year-olds, none if which has been started here. Supposedly these are letter than the ones that have been sent to the post. If so. the stable will go cast with a powerful aggregation erf juv. nile- mat rial. Edward Corrigan baa a big band of two-year-olds, most of which are at Lexington, and it is more than likely that he will show two or three clinkers at th;-Lexington. Louisville and Latonia meetings. Only the "s. conds" of his lot were brought down here and these have, with one or two exceptions, been backward in their training. Not much can be said of those which have started outside of the winners, as they have nearly all been tried repeatedly and found wanting. Some of them, of e-ourse, will develop winning form later on. R. Tuckers Maritza and J. I. Sockwells Brougham have been disappointments. Both we-re highly tried and much was ex-I eetd of them. Brougham is a more than ordinarily good looking colt, has shown improvement and will likely continue to do so. Tom Holland has always t een hammering in and around the money, but has not been able to win. He is a sizable, well built colt, and may do hotter things yet. Mrs. Sewall is a likely looking filly, but of the same ilk as Tom Holland. Guy Fishe-r. one of Schreibi-rs lot. still a maiden, is a big. growthy. powerful e-olt that will jump out and earn brackets one of these days. Of all the non winners Poe-otaligo has impressed the writer as the most likely sort. He is a big colt, well put together, but a slow b ginner. He has lost one or twe races that he should have won. and will un-doubte-elly lie heard from later in the season. A complete list of the two-year-old winners to and including March 17. is given below, with comments on their breeding, conformation and merit as racing propositions: January 1 — Irfaneh — J.
