"CRICKET" KELLY DISABLED. LITTLE RIDER HAS HIS FOOT CRUSHED IN THE LAST RACE AT OAKLAND. Walter Miller in the First Race and Gypsy King in the Last Race the Only Winning Favorites — Downpatrick Scores for Ryan. Oakland. Cal., March 27.— "Cricket" Kelly, the hero of Thursdays sensational bareback exploit on Wing Ting, was the victim of rough riding while piloting Cruzados in the last race- at Oakland today and put out of commssion entirely with a crushed foot. According to the- report of patrol judge- Freel Mulholland. "Midget" Walsh, on Gypsy King, the favorite and ultimate winner, ran amuck and when passing St. Elmwood on the backstretch. the little dareele-vil jockey crowdeel the latter and forced Cruzados against the fence-, disabling the aged sprinters joe-key and causing him to pull his mount up Sharp ly to avoid going eiver the fence into the infield. From the grandstand it app. ared as if Walter Miller, on St. Klmwoexl. was at fault. As a matter of fact. Miller would have landed the Spreck-els horse in the- first thre-e at the finish but for the bitters evident tendency to bore into the rail all through the race. The racing was marked by about the wewst starting that has been seen here in a long time. Wap, in the third race, and J. R. Laughre-y in the fifth, were two favorites left at the post that might have won with good starts. Ieir a card that lacked stake features, tcxlays offering was exe-ellent and produced racing which e-otild not be excelled. The opening and closing rac.-s wore captured by favorites in the lietting, Walter Miller and Gypsy King. The intervening four races we-nt to outsielers. There is only one conclusion possible- in the case of Downpatrlcks sudden awake-ning in th ■ fourth race today and that is that T. II. Ryans lmrse was not at his best in his two previous races. W. W. Finn claimed St. Avon out of the third rae.- for .32r . Al Monrissey. president of the Metropolitan Turf Benevolent Association, will leave for New York next Sunday, going via Los Angeles, where he will stop over for one day only.
