ST LOUIS PLAN CONFIRMED PROJECTED RACE MEETING TO BE AN OBJECT LESSON FOR THE TOWN AND WEST Judge Murphy Gives Outline of the Project and Says SaysIt It May Grow Into Powerful Racing Organization Buffalo X Y August IS Concerning the pro ¬ posed meeting to be held it the Fair Grounds St Louis this fall Joseph A Murphy who will be pre ¬ siding judge expressed himself this afternoon is follows followsThere There has been a niovenient on foot at St Louis for sonic weeks buck to give a short running meeting nt St Louis under the auspices of the business men of the city I was asked to take charge of it and having some spare time between the close of Tort Erie and the opening of Hamilton agreed to do so There is a general demand in my home city for a short meeting each year that will I e u sporting and society event pure and simple It will probably result in the formation of a pow ¬ erful jockey club composed of the business and so ¬ ciety people of the city to take hold of the sport However I am not the promoter of the scheme but will give It every assistance assistanceSt St Louis Mo August IS All the right influ ¬ ences here will support Joseph A Murphys racing venture at the Fair Grounds if that property can be secured Barney Schrciber will be deeply inter ¬ ested The object is to show Governor Folk and tlic entire state that racing of high class and worthy good patronage can be given in St Louis Later If the meeting gets a fair share of patronage and much public approval a new jockey club will be organized among St Louis people of the best class and favorable legislation will be sought in the way of lawIf a limited racing law If such a law can be obtained the new organiza ¬ tion will in all probability build and equip u new racing plant for St Louis It will tie at Xorinan lie Mo a suburb some fifteen miles from the center of St Louis LouisIt It is even declared here that when the Fair Grounds meeting is held if it is held the many handbooks now operating in St Louis and vicinity will cease to operate during the racing term The plans provide for six races daily for S2 0 purses and there will be no trouble over horses Plenty ot the best promisedIt are already promised It is thought here that it is the St Louis experi ¬ ment that was intanl in the eastern rumors about a revival of racing on a track Iir Michigan near Chicago ChicagoOf Of course there will be betting but it will be oral iinpuhlic and far less pernicious than unlimited IHiidhooking Helting will not be recognized by the now organization which will pronounce against it and police the course so as to keep down the public side of what betting there is isWith With racing on such lines and the bad features and persons of the past virtually eliminated it is even opined that Governor Folk will not strenu ¬ ously oppose the St Louis racing experiment
