FAVORITES SLAUGHTERED AT SEATTLE Seat lie Wash August IS Followers of form played in tough luck at The Meadows today Their troubles began witli tie running of the third race which William Walkers Kdwin Gum appeared to have so completely at Iiis mercy that he ruled a top heavy favorite backed for thousands He was put out of business 1 y a collision with Mirzer on the first turn and pulled up a bad last and very lame In the succeeding race Centre Shot from the same stable was backed with equal confidence at oddson An attack of bleeding after she had led for a liilf mile prevented her from finishing The climax came in the closing race when starter Dwyer left the heavily Ibacked favorite Margaret Randolph at the post postIt It was exasperating to the lillvs backers to see her run a winning race after starting fifteen or twenty lengths behind her opponents She finished close up to the money but got no part of it itAchieve Achieve and Areourt the former at prohibitive odds scored as favorites but neither came in for anything like the support lavished upon the trio of unfortunates that failed to finish in the money Kokomo the remaining favorite could do no better than finish third with no mishaps A small coterie of the smart bettors profited by the victory of Gynsy King in the handicap and Centre Shots de ¬ feat was not so profitable to the books as might have been expected
