LAW STRICTLY ENFORCED AT YONKERS Nimbus Sets a New Record at ThrccQuarters of a Mile in First Race Xew York August 18 The opening of the third day of the present meeting at Yonkcrs saw no fall ¬ ing off in public interest nor attendance notwith ¬ standing the edict had gone forth prohibiting the passing of any money for any purposes of wagers whatever Settlements must not be made within the inclosure either before or after the races All transactions involving the passing of money must be made outside of the race track This order entails a handicap and great inconvenience on the already harassed racegoer racegoerFrancis Francis A Winslow the district attorney of Wcstchestcr county was at the track today accom ¬ panied by several of his deputies Mr Winslow told the press representatives gathered In the club ¬ house that he intended to enforce the intent of the HartAgnew law to the letter by going after Un ¬ professional bookmakers That he regarded the ac ¬ ceptance of an oral bet bv a professional as a viola ¬ tion of the law and the police have orders to arrest any such on sight I have cautioned the ollicers to be strict but to use discretion and that there must be iio disorder up here hereTommy Tommy Byrnes one of Tom Shaws principal bet ¬ ting agents was brought before District Attorney Winslow and searched The only evidence of alleged recording of bets found upon the young man was a program on which was written the two words get mush Byrnes explained that this was put there by him so that he would be reminded of his wifes request to buv a package of the cereal and fetch it home for the use of the baby He was ac ¬ cordingly released Shortly after the foregoing incident had taken place Mr Winslow explained that the police would not hesitate to
