STEEPLECHASE FOLKS SARATOGA FAILURE New York August 18 The steeplechase owners gave worse than poor support to the recent Saratoga meeting There were but twentysix starters in nine races In four but two horses were sent to the post Three were threehorse affairs In one four came to the post and the record was made the seventh day of the meeting when a field of five was seen In the nine races fourteen different horses were shown which tells of the repeating that was done The Held Is one of the best in the country and the management has always been extremely liberal in inducements for jumpers jumpersSome Some horses were shipped to Saratoga and used the Oeld to gallop in but not in races Others rimply remained in New York waiting for the Em ¬ pire meeting to be fun at Brighton Now that Yonkers is to be the scene of action there will not 1 eny jumping races during the Empire meeting If steeplechaslng is to continue new owners of a broader caliber must be brought into the game
