BALGOWAN DEAD AT WOODLANDS. From Barney Schreibers AAoodlauds Farm comes the report of tho death of his good sire. Balgowan. Ho was a cracking good race horse and as n two-year-old won the Hyde Park Stakes at Washington Park In 1800, defeating Kingman in a sensational race. The owner of Kingman afterward brought suit for the stakes on an allegation of Balgowaus ineligibility, but was defeated in a long drawn out law suit. He was a bay horse by Strathmore Trlnkitat and sent many good racers out from Woodlands. One of the best of these, was the famous filly. Sofala. that won so many races in California in 1000. Balgowan was foaled in 1SSS and might reasonably have been expected to live longer.
