AN IMPOSTOR QUICKLY UNMASKED. San Francisco. Cal., November 21. It has developed that the young man who lias been posing about town during the last few days as jockey Willie Martin Is an impostor. Sam Hlldretb, owner of the greatest racing stable at the Oakland track, whose name had been freely used by the pseudo jockey In connection with his avowed intention of resuming riding in America, after an alleged engagement abroad, declared yesterckiy that he had no Idea who the fellow could be. and that he .had made nolKKly any such proposition as the Impostor had claimed. The publication of the impostors picture led to the exposure of the deception. Turfmen who saw it declared without hesitation that there was not the least resemblance between the published picture and that of the real Willie Martin. Furthermore, it was learned from several who had seen Martin in the east during the last summer that "Jockey Bill." as he Is familiarly called, had not been abroad at all. What the fellows object could be in representing himself as Willie Martin is not easy to figure out, but the general belief is that he had some scheme in mind by which he expected to turn his imposi tion to account. Although the fellow was careful not to put in an appearance at the track, and the case is not one in which the jockey club could be expected to take much Interest, the jockey club management has put the matter into the hands of the Pinkertous. An effort will be made to locate and prosocute the fellow, if it develops that he has engaged in any shady transaction.
