NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey O. II. Shilling will go to Los Angeles to ride the Thomas horses on the opening day of the Santa Anita Park meeting. P. P. Miller, of Chicago, has shipped his fast three-year-old filly. Night Mist, to Beaumont, Tex. She should prove a good addition to the sprinters now racing on that circuit. Report comes from San Francisco that a coroners jury has exonerated II. G. Bcdwell from all blame in connection with the death of the boy who was run down and killed by Bedwclls automobile last week. Judge Murphy restored the Haft stable, consisting of Ora Sudduth. Bosom Friend and Cerro Santa, to good standing. They were suspended pending an investigation of charges brought against the trainer connected with them. "Red" Walker has pointed Stanley Fay for the Pomona Handicap to be run on the opening day at Santa Anita Park and figures on having a good chance with the colt, unless the weight assigned him proves too burdensome. Should the horses meet with a fair share of success the stable may be shipped to Havana for the Cuban meeting, which begins December 1. Hart Deruham, who has acted as racing secretary at tho different tracks in Texas, is receiving much praise for his work in assigning the weights in the various handicaps. The duel between First Premium and Joe Stokes in the Bob Levy Handicap last week at Houston, was the result of Dcrnbains handicapping. , Dr. Rowell has decided to give Firestone a respite from training in hope that he will regain his form, the. colt having lost about twenty-five pounds in weight as the result of his two hard races since the Opening of the season. Sam Stern, formerly entry clerk for tho New California Jockey Club, -has reached San Francisco from Salt Lake, where he acted as assistant to Manager W. M. Murray during tho thirty-days meeting recently concluded at that -place. Stern will be connected,1 In ai similar capacity with the sixty-days meeting scheduled to - begin the coming month at El Paso. Tex., under Murrays management. Murray is planning to give a ,000 handicap at El Paso On Christmas day -and a stake of similar value on some other date.
