SHOCKING DEATH OF G. W. POOLE. George W. Poole took his life at Santa Anita yes terday. Poverty in his old age aud despair over hgislat ion threatening the existence of racing as he had known it. are said to have lieen the factors that caused it. His tragic death will come as ■ shock to many in Chicago, where, for many years as an owner in his own right and as a trainer for others, he raced horses for more than twenty years. "Bishop" Poole, as his intimates called him. was a Kentuckinn by birth and was at one time assoeialed with Kd Corrigan aud Jim Carlisle in railroad build ing in Colorado, but bail followed the calliug of a turfman for over twenty live years in ihe course of which he raced many good horses. His last prouiin MM here was when he trained the big stable of M. H. Tichenor and Co. He was a bluff-hearty man and a boon comrade of Corrigan. Dave Waldo. Tom Hums. Jim Brown. Pat Dunne, dene Leigh, Nick Hall, Charley Kiimmell and others prominent in .hi cago racing of from ten to twenty years ago.
