WHITNEY AFTER STAR LIGHTWEIGHT. London. Kng . April 17. — H. P. Whitney has offered a big retaining fee for the services for the present season of Frank Wootton, the Knglish jockey, who was second with 129 wins in the list of winning jockeys in 1908. He rides at eighty-four pounds. Frank Wootton. who Is but fifteen years old. last year refused an offer of 0.001 a year with a ten years engagement to ride for Veil Picard. the French sportsman. He is reported to hav earned 5,000 last year. He might have beaten Mahers record of 139 wins last year but for the fact that he was under suspension for a mouth for unfair riding.
