CLOSED AT JACKSONVILLE. MEETING AT MONCREIF PARK COMES TO A PROSPEROUS CONCLUSION. Heart of Hyacinth a Surprise in the Chief Race of the Afternoon — Big Meeting Planned for Next Winter. Jacksonville, Fla . April 37. — Today marked the dose of tin- iniincur.il meeting of the State Fair Association f Florida. A brilliant gathering assembled, many prominent men in both tin- social and business life of Jacksonville being present. Speaker Ferris of the lower house was an interested spectator and lie viewed the running of a couple of the races from the timers* and lodges stand. OMat predictions are being made for Jacksonville as a racing iiolnt next winter, and Messrs. Pons and Brown promise to make the plant one of the finest In the country. Todays program comprised seven races, the fea ture of which was a handicap, at one mile, in which some f the liest horses ou the grounds started. The result proved n decided surprise, the winner turning up in the outsider. Heart of Hyacinth, which heat the Metarren three-year-old. Kosebmg II.. In a canter. That Heart of Hyacinths victor was no! a tiuke was shown l y I lie time, the inie-being run in 1 :45 . which marked a new track record. Favorites captured two of the races, the winning choices being Camel and Takahira. The latter was making his first appearance since coming out ot winter quarters, and lie simply made an exhibition f his opponents, leading at one stage by almost i dozen lengths. Camels victory came only after a gruelling stretch drive, in which he just did man age. to get up in time to nose our Karls Court The work ol .ludge Joseph A. Murphy has made a lit with the local association and at a conference held this morning Mr. Murphy was asked if In-would accept the position of presiding judge at Moncieif Park next winter. The judge was agree able. lreviotts to the races today Dillard Hill purchased Youthful of David Dunlop and the horse ran in his Vim;.- and interests in tin- handicap this afternoon. Mr. Hill also added Malediction to his string. The price paid for each horse was 00. They will be shipped to Windsor and rest up for the Canadian meetings. Jockey Lovell left, tonight for I/exington. where he goes to .join the stable of his employer, V. II. Fizer. I.ovell is a capable rider and is sure to make his mark this season. James Milton and K. A meeting will be given at Norfolk this spring. It is understood that the opening has been set for about the middle of May. The ruling made against W. C. Capps ends with the present meeting. It was merely stated that entries would noi be accepted from the latter at the present meeting and this toes not affect his standing at other | oints.
