SARATOGA STAKES THIS YEAR. The Saratoga meeting of the present vear will not suffer iu comparison with its predecessors. Of the long-established features, the Hopeful. Spinawav, Travels and Alabama Stakes, closed last vear and the year before, have promising lists of eligible* and the subvention of 1. UN I from the Owners" and Breeders Association is sufficient to endow about the usual number of additional closed events characteristic of the average Saratoga stake list. It is said that it is quite probable that tbtvsc stakes will mil be offered for entries prior to June. The meeting runs from August 2 to August 23. and a closing iu June is early enough for all prae tical purposes. By that time horses will be so well advanced that the entries will be nearly altogether of those tit to race and much of the deadwood listed in early closing stakes will be absent. Of the stakes already closed, the Hopeful has $."..KH» added, the Spinaway is 113,300 guaranteed, the Travels ,300 and the Alabama $."i.ihh. At present the Hopeful has eighty-three eligibles. the Spinaway tiity-five. the Travels twenty-six and the Alabama twenty-three, but declarations due May 1 will probably cut the first two down materially.
