Both the eastern ami arest- in delegations are largely represented and everyone appears eager for the sport to bejrin. The trains from New York that reached Baltimore this after noon brought on hundreds of New Yorkers and the Congressional Limited, due here tonight, is reported to be crowded with turf enthusiasts. So heavy was the demand for scats on this train that the railroad pi-ople were forced to rim it in two sections. The adverse conditions about New York undoubtedly helped Pimlico. and there are people here this spring that are making their first visit to Baltimore in years. Stable room at the track was at a premium weeks ago and the late comers have iKen forced to sash accommodations in the surrounding country. Among those to reach here this afternoon was Y. E. Walsh, who came on from Latouia with the good sprinter. Coon. The management of the lietting enclosure this year is in charge of Mortimer Mahonoy. and the list of applications to do business is unprecedented. There is a lack of room at Iinilico and it has been found necessary to limit the number of layers to thirty-rive. A card of seven good races has been arranged lor the opening, with the Inaugural Steeplechase, the Baltimore Club Cup. gentlemen riders, and the Country Club purse as features. The track is stio to lie heavy and holding and this will he against any last running. A feature of the meeting will be the cross-country races, which are always popular here and that there will be large fields in all of these contests is pmh-abb- from the nuuitier of. horses miarliltl at the tra -k. there being close to one hundred timber top MCtl here. It is cxpeeted that the attendance tomorrow will l e the largest that ever witnessed a HH here, providing, of course, that the weather is clear and pleasant and many predictions are made that it will exceed the attendance of 1K77. when that memorable race in which Larolc beat the famous Ten Brocck. drew folks lroin different parts of the country. This is the first time in many years that Baltimore has had the honor of opening up the sea sou of racing in the east and from present indica tions it seems that everyone is going to celebrate, as the racing is the main talk of the town. Of the two-year olds here, the Walden youngster. Beau Chilton, by Chilton — Belle Acton, is talked of as the best at the track and he is not only a good looker, but is said to be very fast. He is entered in some of the English leading fixtures. The Walden two-vear-olds have been coughing, but it is expected that they will be all right again in a few days. A. H. Morris, who owns Queen Chilton and Cunning, which are in the Walden lot. is expected to be here tomorrow . Amos Turney has had some hard luck since he has been here, as a few days ago he was unfortunate enough to have one of his promising two year olds die. while Theo Cook and Sig. his three-year-olds, are now on the shelf ami may not be seen at their best during the meeting. Jockeys Deverich and Seville have arrived here from California. Deverich. who is under contract to George Neil, will do the riding for N. K. Beal at this meeting. W. T. McGivnoy. who hail lackey Crowley at Savannah and Tampa, got in from New York this morning. Crowley has been here for sev oral days.
