MONTREAL MEETING HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL. Future of Racing in Quebec Metropolis Assured — Prominent Canadians Take to the Sport. Monti-al. Que.. Jbjaje 21. — The meeting whieh came to a close at Blue Honiiets Saturday was eminent h successful from every standpoint. Excellent racing iu fasl time. iialasMidrd enthusiasm and a record breaking attendance arc some of the features which marked rbe meeting. There was not a day when the attendance was not upwanls of 1.2H0 persons more than tilled out on tie corresiaiiutiug day of last vear. and the future of racing in Montreal is as-surisl. Society turned out strongly from the start and the rlubbouaa and paddock may be said to have fairly Btsseoaaed, the women vleing with each other in the gorgeousness and lieauty of their gowns. The presence of so many of Montreals most respected people indicates a fondness for good, wholesome out door s|s rt which lias always been elevating in Its tendency in any country. The paddock, which at Blue Bonnets has many attractive features, includ nay. some handsome trees, is always thronged white the horses ate ladng prepared for their races, and many women are to be found among the spectators. There are many superb horsewomen in Montreals social set. among them the Misses Campbell. Allan and Anilon and Mrs. Oault. and they make a practice of inspecting tlie many handsome specimens of the hunter type with critical eye. Among the men of prominence who were on hand nearly every day were Sir Thomas Sliaughnessv. Sir Montagu Allan. Bartlett McLennan. Major 0. W. Stephens. Charles W. .Smith. Or. Charb-s Me-Bachron, Hugh Allan. Andrew Allan. M. E. Davis. William Mclntyre. A. E. Ogilvie. Hugh Paton. Colonel tirant. General Buchan. Oeneral Wilson. Charles M. Hart. Robert Ciishing and others whose names are will known throughout Canada. Colin CamplM-ll. who from the first took an active I art in th - management of the Montreal Jockey Club, was in London acting as a judge in the saddle and banter classes.
